UCM Kicks Off Monday in Round of 16

The 2024 NAIA Women's Soccer National Championship will continue tomorrow, Monday, Dec. 2 in Pensacola, Fla., with 16 teams remaining in the Battle For The Red Banner.  The final site games will take place at the Ashton Brosnaham Soccer Complex with 15 games over eight days.  UC Merced, the California Pacific Conference regular season co-champion, upset Embry-Riddle 1-0 in the Second Round to advance to the Round of 16.  The Bobcats (11-3-2) open their bid for a national title against Campbellsville (Ky.) on Monday, Dec. 2, at 2:00 p.m. PT.  The Lady Tigers (18-1-1) were ranked as high as No. 6 in the NAIA this season with their only loss coming in a 1-0 decision against No. 1 Cumberlands (Ky.) on Oct. 11.

After the Round of 16, the final eight teams will kick off in the quarterfinals on Dec. 5, followed by the Semifinals on Dec. 7, and the Championship game on Dec. 9. 

The NAIA Women's Soccer Championship will be broadcast for FREE on Urban Edge Network and the newly redesigned NAIA Network. This includes all matches in Pensacola, Fla., including the championship match and the awards presentation. Fans can watch their favorite team from anywhere in the world.

Final Site Team Highlights

  • Indiana Wesleyan, MidAmerica Nazarene (Kan.), and UC Merced all pulled off the upset in their respective second-round matches to punch their ticket to Florida.
  • All 16 teams qualified for last year's tournament.
  • Spring Arbor (Mich.) and Tennessee Southern have both won the Red Banner three times, the most national championship titles among the remaining 16 teams.
  • Cumberlands (Ky.) continues its run this season as the defending national champions.
  • Eight teams won their respective conference tournaments, two won their conference regular season title, and six continue their post-season runs with an at-large bid.
  • The remaining field of 16 has posted a collective 250 wins to this point in their season, with a combined winning percentage of 85.7%.
  • Three teams have yet to suffer a loss on the season:  Cumberlands (Ky.), College of Idaho, and Aquinas (Mich.).
  • The Patriots of Cumberlands (Ky.) are the only team left with a perfect record, winning all 18 games played with no ties.
  • The Crossroads League has the most teams at the final site with three (Spring Arbor (Mich.), Marian (Ind.), and Indiana Wesleyan.
  • The Heart of America, Mid-South, Southern States, and The Sun conferences all have two teams still in the field.
  • Of the 16 teams heading to Pensacola, 10 of them have an animal as a mascot, with the most common being a cougar:  Columbia (Mo.) and Spring Arbor (Mich.).
