Lion Hearted: Lady Lions Volunteer at Mercy Warehouse

The Soka University of America women's soccer team stepped away from the pitch on Oct. 24, and volunteered their time with the Mercy Warehouse thrift store in Laguna Niguel, Calif., by sorting through tax-deductible donations of unwanted goods, clothing, and furniture.

This was the Lady Lions' chance to give back to the community while working with the Mercy Warehouse thrift store, which is open for sales every day. The organization uses the profits from sales made to purchase food for needy families both locally and abroad.

Through this process, The Mercy Warehouse provides food for over 1,000 people weekly. They fund monthly donations to Mexico, Los Angeles, and Santa Ana, while also helping to supply several other local food banks as well.

"It was great to see our players contributing to an organization that feeds and clothes so many needy individuals and families in our area," said head coach David McLeish. "Mercy Warehouse was very thankful for our help and we look forward to doing it again."
