ERAU Moves Up to 8th Place at Nationals

Embry-Riddle followed its strong first-round effort with improved scores that bumped them up three spots on the team leaderboard of the NAIA Women's Golf National Championships at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.  As a team, the Eagles shot 320 over the first 18 holes and shaved five strokes off that total in the second round to put them in 8th place among the 30 teams in the field.  The field will be reduced to the top 15 teams (plus ties) and six individuals who have not already made the cut with their teams (plus ties) for the final two rounds.

ERAU, which has recorded two top-10 finishes in the past 10 years, is 25 strokes off the pace of team leader Keiser (Fla.), which shot a sizzling 290 to jump five spots into first. One of the two teams paired with ERAU in the first two rounds, SCAD-Savannah (Ga.), was one of two teams to shoot under 300 and make a significant move in the team standings.  SCAD shot 297 to vault 10 spots into 4th place.

NAIA Women's Golf National Championship - Second Round results

The Eagles' first-day leader, Kaetlin Halseth, finished with the second-best round for her team, dropping her 10 spots but still in a tie for 21st place.  Maisy Alsen carded the best round for ERAU, finishing with a 77, and Charlotte Giffin turned in a round of 79—both taking five strokes off their first-round totals.  Hailey Stevenson followed her opening round of 79 with an 80, and Libby Axen shot an 84, one shot better than her first round.

As the conditions improved, so did the scores on the par 72, 6059-yard course.  The 156-player field took more than a stroke off the first-round average, dropping from 83.52 to 82.03.
