ERAU Finishes Day 1 in a Tie for 11th Place

Embry-Riddle found itself in a favorable position after one round of the NAIA Women's Golf National Championships at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.  The Eagles, competing in their 10th consecutive national tournament, completed the first 18 holes of the tournament 32-over par with a team score of 320 and found themselves in the upper echelon of the 30-team field, sitting in a tie for 11th place, 15 strokes behind first-day leader British Columbia.  Following tomorrow's second trip around the par 72, 6059-yard course, the field will be reduced to the top 15 teams (plus ties) and six individuals who have not already made the cut with their teams (plus ties).

NAIA Women's Golf National Championship - First Round results

Kaetlin Halseth turned in the top round for the Eagles, carding a 4-over 76 that put her in a tie for 11th place, just two strokes off co-leaders Kate Castle of Milligan (Tenn.) and Abby Donovan of Kansas Wesleyan.  Hailey Stevenson was the only other ERAU golfer under 80 after 18 holes, finishing with a 79 and in a tie for 30th place.  Maisy Alsen (82), Charlotte Giffin (83), and Libby Axen (85) round out the team scoring.  Due to wet and soggy conditions on a course that was extended nearly 200 yards in length from a year ago, scores were impacted in the opening round.  No individual in the field of 155 golfers shot par in the first round, where the average score was 83.52.

ERAU started today's play at Hole 10 along with SCAD-Savannah (Ga.) and Southeastern (Fla.) and will play with the same two teams Wednesday, beginning on Hole 1 at 10:20 a.m. PT.  In the past decade at the NAIA National Championship, ERAU has recorded two top-10 finishes:  2nd place in 2017 and 6th place last year.
