ERAU Wins First Quarterfinal Match
Jacob Baker netted the only goal of the contest to lift Embry-Riddle, the #5 seed in the California Pacific Conference Championship, over #4 Benedictine-Mesa 1-0 in the first match of the postseason tournament at El Camino College in Torrance, Calif. Baker headed in a pass from Marc Birkvald early in the second half to provide the Eagle defense all the offense it would need to advance in the playoffs. ERAU keeper Alastair Stark turned back all four Redhawk shots on goal to earn the shutout.
The victory puts ERAU into tomorrow's semifinal matchup with top-seeded UC Merced. That match will take place at 11:00 a.m. The second semifinal game will pit #2 Marymount California against the winner of the Simpson-Antelope Valley match.
