MSOC: Simpson In; Championship Playoff Field Set

The Week of Oct. 29 - Nov. 4 in Review

The California Pacific Conference Championship tournament field was finally set Sunday when La Sierra fell to UC Merced 3-2. The loss dropped the Golden Eagles out of contention for the sixth and final slot in the postseason and enabled Simpson, riding a four-game win streak, to move into the #6 seed because the Red Hawks' head-to-head win over LSU.

2018 Men's Soccer Bracket

The Championship will begin this Wednesday, Nov. 7 with #4 Benedictine-Mesa facing #5 Embry-Riddle at 11:00 a.m., followed by a matchup between #3 Antelope Valley and #6 Simpson at 1:30 p.m. All matches take place at El Camino Stadium in Torrance, Calif.

UCM sealed the top seed in the tournament with a 10-0-1 record in the Cal Pac this fall with the second seed going to Marymount California, winners of the past four Cal Pac Championship tournaments.

The first round on Wednesday will open with #4 Benedictine-Mesa (8-3) facing #5 Embry-Riddle (8-3) at 11:00 a.m. Those two played Saturday, with the Redhawks shutting out the Eagles, 2-0, on the road in Prescott.

The second match in the opening round features #3 Antelope Valley (8-2) against either La Sierra (5-5) or Simpson (5-6). If LSU wins or ties in the season finale at home against UC Merced, the Golden Eagles are the #6 seed. If LSU loses, Simpson will move into a tie at 5-6, but the Red Hawks defeated the Golden Eagles to gain the tiebreaker advantage.

UAV's Manuel Medina continues his torrid scoring binge by piling up six goals in a 12-1 over Pacific Union in the Pioneers' season finale Sunday. The senior forward, the reigning NAIA National Offensive Player of the Week, netted the first three goals of the game, one more before halftime, and kicked in two more over the final 45 minutes, as well as chipping in with an assist. His goal barrage brings his season total to 31, ranking him #1 in the NAIA. Medina also leads the nation in Goals per Game (1.720), Total Points (68), and Points per Game (3.780).
