Men's Soccer Championships Seeds Set
The Cal Pac men's soccer championships are set…finally. UC Merced out-fought La Sierra, 3-2, in the very last match of the season to knock the Golden Eagles out of contention. Simpson and LSU tied, but the Red Hawks earned the #6 seed by a head-to-head win over LSU.
UC Merced (10-0-1) and Marymount California (9-1-1) are the top two seeds, respectively, and have a bye into the semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 8.
The first round on Wednesday will open with #4 Benedictine-Mesa (8-3) facing #5 Embry-Riddle (8-3) at 11:00 a.m. Those two played Saturday, with the Redhawks shutting out the Eagles, 2-0, on the road in Prescott.
The second match in the opening round features #3 Antelope Valley (9-2) against Simpson (5-6).
All matches take place at El Camino Stadium in Torrance, Calif. The Cal Pac championships are hosted by Marymount California.
At stake is the Cal Pac's "second" bid to the NAIA national championship tournament. The conference has two slots, and UC Merced is automatically in based on its regular-season title. The tournament winner gets the second spot...unless UCM wins. Then the other finalist advances.
