William Jessup Men's Soccer Signs Four
William Jessup University men's soccer coach Carl Engel announced his first four signings of the 2012 recruiting season with the signing of high school seniors Kyle Barr, Zach Kammerer, Mike Mazzoni, and Dylan Valentine.
A native of Sacramento, California, Barr joins William Jessup from soccer powerhouse Jesuit High School in Carmichael, California. Last season, Jesuit finished 24-2-4 while securing the Delta River League championship with a 7-0 record in conference play. He was also a key middle fielder for the San Juan Soccer Club. He has excelled in the classroom as an active member of the Deans Honor Roll. Off the pitch, Barr has served through a mission's trip to Mexicali, feeding the homeless, teaching vacation bible school and was an active member in the Jesuit service club. Barr said, "William Jessup offers me an opportunity to grow in my walk with Christ through a Biblically centered school, become a businessman centered on Christian values, and become a better skilled soccer player."
A native of Rocklin, California, Kammerer comes to the Warriors after an outstanding four year career at Rocklin High School. As the goalkeeper for the Thunder, Kammerer helped Rocklin to a 52-26-18 record over four years, while winning the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division II Championship in 2009 as well as section semi-finalist in 2008 and 2010. He earned All-Sierra Foothill League honors in 2008 and 2010 and holds the Rocklin High School record for most career shutouts and goals against average. As a member of the Placer United Soccer Club, he helped the team reach the Northern California State Cup finals in 2009 and 2010 and was also a member of the Northern California Olympic Development Program (ODP) State Team in 2007 and 2008. He was invited to the US National Team Residency Program Tryout in 2009. Kammerer said, "I believe that William Jessup has a lot to offer not only as a Christian institution, but as an excellent university. I have been able to visit the campus and interact with students and staff and I absolutely love the school. By attending William Jessup, I will be able to reach my fullest academic and personal potential."
Another native of Rocklin, Mazzoni also comes to Warriors after a standout career at Rocklin High School. Mazzoni helped the Thunder to nineteen wins in two years as a center midfielder. He helped Rocklin reach the 2010 CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division II championship game. Mazzoni said, "William Jessup is close to home, a small school and has small class sizes. It's a very welcoming environment. Every teammate on the Warriors' squad has welcomed me on and off the field."
Valentine, a native of Sparks, Nevada, comes to Warriors after a stellar three year career at Reed High School. Valentine was named High Desert League offensive player of the year this past season. He earned first team All-High Desert League honors as a sophomore and junior. Valentine scored over twenty goals in all three varsity seasons while setting a new career scoring record of sixty-two goals. He also dished out eleven assists in his senior season. Valentine stated, "I choose William Jessup because it's a Christ centered university were I have been blessed with the opportunity to get a Christ-centered education, play collegiate soccer, and continue my walk with the Lord all at the same time."
