SU Finishes Second at Golf Qualifier

Simpson's men's golf team had four individuals finish in the top 10 of the Frontier Conference/Cal Pac NAIA Qualifier at the Papago Golf Club in Phoenix, Ariz., giving the Red Hawks a second-place finish in the field of eight teams.  Providence Christian came in fifth, followed by Soka and Cal Maritime, which finished well ahead of Montana State-Northern.  In the women's event, Soka was the top Cal Pac finisher, placing fourth, one spot ahead of Cal Maritime in the field of five teams.  Simpson and Providence Christian did not have a team score.

SU's Trey Alwert turned in three strong rounds on the Par-72, 6,882-yard course to finish just three strokes behind medalist Kristjan Burkelca of Rocky Mountain and tied with RMC's Jake Johnson.  Alwert carded rounds of 70-73-72—215, leading a strong showing by the Red Hawks.  Justin Kiester (73-74-74—221) placed 7th, Fynn Junghans (78-72-72—222) tied for 8th, and Ty Salvador (76-75-75—226) was 10th.

Malik Edd produced the lowest score for PCC, completing the tournament with scores of 78-80-72—230 to finish in a tie for 13th place, just in front of Soka's Ethan Tseng (77-78-79—234) in 18th place, and CSUM's Mason Sylvester (73-75-87—235) who came in 20th.

SU's Michelle Euan finished with the lowest score among Cal Pac golfers, claiming fifth place with rounds of 75-89-81—245 over the Par-72, 5797-yard course.  Soka's Mariah Brooks tied for 10th place with rounds of 86-83-83—252, and Allison Bailey had the best showing for CSUM, placing 17th with scores of 95-90-83—268.  PCC's Justina Mares finished in 20th place with rounds of 83-96-91—270.
