SU Sweeps 3-Game Set, Claims Top Spot

Simpson completed a series sweep over host Westcliff Saturday and gained a one-game advantage over the Warriors in the California Pacific Conference standings.  The Red Hawks, now 8-4 in conference and 14-24 overall, inched in front of La Sierra (6-4), and created space from WU (7-8) and Providence Christian (4-9).  In Friday's opener, SU scored in each of the first four innings, and that proved to be more than enough for starter Gage Hoyle, who went 5.1 innings to pick up the 8-2 win.  Hoyle scattered five hits and allowed two earned runs while fanning six.  Geremy McCollough and Gavin Hughes combined to allow just one hit over the final 3.2 innings to seal the win.  Cayden Lee led the offensive attack, finishing with three hits in five plate appearances and driving in three.  Mario Catalan, Dominic Folks, and Jaxon Hotta each had two hits.  In Saturday's doubleheader sweep, the Red Hawks won the opener 6-1.  Trailing 1-0 entering the 5th inning, they plated six runs over the next three innings while Hyunwoo Kim, McCollough, and Qorey Houston allowed just three WU hits over the final five innings.  In the finale, SU's offense erupted for 17 hits en route to a 12-2 victory.  Lee again was the catalyst, going 4-for-5 with two more RBI, and Andreyes Palacios went 4-for-4 with three runs and three RBI.  Houston went the distance, allowing only six Warrior hits for the win.
