USK Drops First Two NAIA Matches
Saint Katherine, the California Pacific Conference co-champion and runner up at the NAIA Western Grouping Qualifying tournament, dropped its first two matches on the first day of pool play at the NAIA Beach Volleyball Invitational at Greeneville Beach Volleyball Complex in Greeneville, Tenn. The #6 Firebirds (14-11) pushed #2 Ottawa (Ariz.) to a 3-2 decision in the morning and then lost to #3 Park (Mo.) 4-1 in the afternoon. USK's Makenzie Nutting and Denisse Sanchez teamed up for a three-set win at 4s, and Emily Wilson and Jadyn Starling swept their two sets to win the 5s against OUAZ. Against Park, the Firebirds' lone victory came in the 1s match as Cal Pac Pair of the Year Alexcis Morris and Anne Mayfield took both sets.
USK, one of three teams in the championship field for the first time, will face #7 Vanguard in its final pool match tomorrow morning at 8:30 am PT. Following the final two matches in Pool B tomorrow, all teams will advance to a single-elimination bracket following pool play.
