WU Secures Co-Championship, Top Seed in Postseason

Playing in wind and rain, Westcliff won the team title at this weekend's Cal Pac Jamboree 2, held at Warm Waters Beach in Carlsbad, Calif.  The Warriors, ranked No. 6 in the latest NAIA Coaches' Top 10 Poll, lost to (RV) Saint Katherine 3-2 in Saturday's final match and, as a result, will share their third consecutive regular season crown with the Firebirds. WU and USK were even at the end of the two-day tournament, but the Warriors won the tiebreaker for postseason seeding because the 5s won in just two games, 21-19, 25-23, giving them the top seed in the upcoming NAIA West Qualifier Tournament, which will be hosted by WU on April 11-13 in Chula Vista, Calif.  USK is the Cal Pac's #2 seed, Park-Gilbert is #3, and Benedictine Mesa is #4.  The regional tournament, which will determine which teams advance to the NAIA National Championship, will field four Cal Pac teams and four teams from the Cascade Conference, which will be determined after next weekend's CCC tournament.
