Simpson defeats PUC in straight sets

The Simpson Red Hawks easily defeated Pacific Union in straight sets (25-18, 25-22, 25-23) in Match 7 of the Cal Pac Seeding Jamboree. The win gives Simpson a #2 seed in the upcoming 2026 Cal Pac Men's Volleyball Championships. Pacific Union earns the #3 seed.
Simpson dominated the first set but the Pioneers settled in and made the second and third sets more competitive. The Pioneers would lose their top player All-Conference first teamer Nate Tejada to a hand injury in the second set. Pacific Union kept fighting hard but the Red Hawks front line was too formidable.
The Red Hawks outshot PUC (46-26) in kills and assists (46-24). Super frosh Dehryn Brown, the 2026 Cal Pac Freshman of the Year and Attacker of the Year, didn't disappoint as he led Simpson's attack with 14 kills, 5 assists and 6 digs. Second Team All-Conference selection Akira Davies added 11 kills, 8 digs and 3 service aces. Sophomore setter and honorable mention Tyce Nakamura had 33 assists and 4 digs.
Pacific Union's Tristen Miller led the Pioneers with 8 kills. The junior middleblocker from Temecula, CA, added 5 digs. Honorable mention selection JV Cruzado contributed with 12 assists and 4 digs.
