Cal Pac Announces Players of the Week for Oct. 7

The following California Pacific Conference student-athletes have been recognized as the conference Players of the Week for their performances during the period of Sept. 30 – Oct. 6:

 

WOMEN'S SOCCER

Offensive Player of the Week

Yesenia Tijerina of UC Merced recorded a hat trick against Providence Christian and scored a goal against La Sierra as part of a four-goal week to lead the Bobcats to a 3-0 start in Cal Pac play. The senior defender from Salinas, Calif., recorded her first hat trick of the season and leads the conference with 12 goals.

Defensive Player of the Week

Ali Razon of La Sierra earned her second conference honor after recording 15 saves in two road matches last week.  The junior keeper from Moreno Valley, Calif., picked up seven saves in a 4-0 loss at UC Merced and then turned in another strong performance with saves in Sunday's 1-1 draw at Simpson.

MEN'S SOCCER

Offensive Player of the Week

UC Merced forward Daniel Borges extended his point-scoring streak to eight matches and combined for four goals and an assist last week against La Sierra and Providence Christian. In Thursday's 3-2 win over the Golden Eagles, the senior from Turlock, Calif., converted a pair of goals and then followed that up with more scores and an assist against the Sea Beggars.

Defensive Player of the Week

Edwin Casillas of UC Merced helped anchor the defense against La Sierra and Providence Christian last week, extending the Bobcats' unbeaten streak to nine consecutive matches. The junior defender from Sonora, Calif., played all 90 minutes against LSU and he headed in the game-winning goal off a corner kick in the 72nd minute—the first goal of his career. Against PCC, he played a role in the shutout and helped limit PCC to just four total shots.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL

Attacker of the Week

Jacey Loewen of Providence Christian was named the top attacker two weeks ago, saw her sister Jenelle earn it last week, only to wrest the honor back this week after knocking down 36 kills at the Cal Pac Jamboree.  The junior middle blocker from Paso Robles, Calif., finished with a .302 hitting percentage and was in on seven blocks over three matches.

Setter of the Week

Kyra Miller of UC Merced averaged over 7.5 assists, 1.3 digs, 0.5 kills, and 0.4 blocks per set in a 3-0 week at the Cal Pac Jamboree.  The sophomore from Fresno, Calif., had at least 22 assists in each match, and recorded a double-double with 33 assists and 10 digs in the weekend finale against La Sierra.

Defender of the Week

Simpson's Madison Kammuller garnered her second top defender honor with a strong showing at the Cal Pac Jamboree.  The senior Libero from Burlingame, Calif., accumulated 72 digs (6.55 per set) with a .981 reception percentage, committing only one error in 54 receptions.  She also added 21 assists and six service aces.
