Cal Pac Names Players of the Week for Sept. 2

The following California Pacific Conference student-athletes have been recognized as the conference Players of the Week for their performances during the period of Aug. 26 – Sept. 1:

 

WOMEN'S SOCCER

Offensive Player of the Week

Samantha Torres of La Sierra earns this week's honor after leading her squad to its first win of the season.  The freshman midfielder from Riverside, Calif., nailed the game-winner in last Friday's 2-1 win over Benedictine Mesa.

Defensive Player of the Week

Providence Christian keeper Kassandra Ramirez was between the sticks during the Sea Beggars' 1-0 win over St. Mary's (Ind.) last Friday.  The junior from Chula Vista, Calif., collected seven saves in securing the shutout.

MEN'S SOCCER

Offensive Player of the Week

Jordan Di Lonardo of Westcliff produced a hat trick in a 4-0 win against The Master's on Friday and followed that with a goal in the first two minutes of the Sunday's 2-1 win over La Verne.  The senior midfielder from Gordola, Switzerland, scored three times on free kicks and once on a corner.

Defensive Player of the Week

Westcliff's Jesse Heredia anchored a defense that turned in two strong performances last week.  The junior goalie from Wilmington, Calif., led a Warrior defense that posted a 4-0 shutout over The Master's and then had a 2-1 win over La Verne.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL

Attacker of the Week

Westcliff's Samantha Carelock gets the nod for the second consecutive week after turning in four strong outings last week.  The senior from Vacaville, Calif., finished with 50 kills last week, capped by a program-record 29-kill performance against Caltech.  She added 36 digs, nine service aces, and four blocks.

Setter of the Week

Amanda Ferreria of Westcliff set a program record match this weekend. In Saturday's match against Caltech, the junior setter from Sao Paulo, Brazil, dished out a program-record 48 assists.  For the week, she finished with 63 assists, 35 digs, and 10 kills.

Defender of the Week

Sam Swanson of Westcliff had 103 receptions in four matches last week, recording just eight errors for a .922 reception percentage.  The Warriors' defensive specialist from Whittier, Calif., recorded 55 digs, including 25 in the five-set loss to Caltech.
