Cal Pac Names Players of the Week for Sept. 25

The following California Pacific Conference student-athletes have been recognized as the conference Players of the Week for their performances during the period of Sept. 18-24:

 

CROSS COUNTRY

Women's Runner of the Week

Maryan Sharif of Park-Gilbert turned in the second-fastest 5k time this Fall, clocking a 19:41 at the UC Riverside Invitational.  The grad student from Garland, Tex., finished 96th in a field of 237 competitors.

Men's Runner of the Week

Demetris Love, Jr. of Embry-Riddle turned in the best 8k time so far this season, crossing in 24:16 at The Master's XC Invitational.  The senior from Phoenix, Ariz., took 3rd place in a field of 236 runners.

WOMEN'S SOCCER

Offensive Player of the Week

Embry-Riddle had one game this week, and it was a big one, and junior midfielder Rae Yoshioka played a pivotal role in a 2-0 victory over UC Merced.  The Pearl City, Hawaii, native contributed a goal and an assist, netting the first goal and then assisting on the game-winner.

Defensive Player of the Week

Annabelle Ruckle of Embry-Riddle kept a clean sheet in the Eagles' 2-0 win over (RV) UC Merced, which entered the contest without a loss in conference play.  The junior keeper from Phoenix, Ariz., made four saves as ERAU did not give up a goal.

MEN'S SOCCER

Offensive Player of the Week

Wissem Obeid of Westcliff helped his team climb to the top of the Cal Pac standings with strong performances over the weekend.  The grad student from Paris, France, had a goal against Pacific Union and then recorded his first hat trick against Cal Maritime.

Defensive Player of the Week

UC Merced defensive midfielder Xavier Barajas was key in slowing down two extremely hot offenses. The junior from Turlock, Calif., and the Bobcats shutout Embry-Riddle and held the #7 scoring team in the nation without a shot on goal.  He also scored the game-winning goal against the Eagles.  UCM then held Benedictine Mesa to just four total shots with the only goal coming on a penalty kick.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL

Attacker of the Week

Alexa Ultreras of UC Merced recorded back-to-back double-doubles while averaging 3.33 kills, 4.0 digs, and 0.56 service aces per set in two wins over Pacific Union and Simpson. The junior outside hitter had a career-high 19 kills to go along with 22 digs against SU, and she finished with 11 kills, 14 digs, and a career-high four service aces against PUC.

Setter of the Week

Embry-Riddle's Katie Rolle guided the Eagle offense during two matches last week, handing out 93 assists, and average of 10.33 per set.  The senior from Missoula, Mont., also added 17 kills from her setter position with only one error, 24 digs, and two service aces.

Defender of the Week

Chenelle Jones of Providence Christian played a key role in the Sea Beggars' split of two conference matches last week.  The junior defensive specialist from Winnetka, Calif., totaled 47 digs—as well as four assists and three service aces—as PCC defeated Westcliff and fell to unbeaten Saint Katherine.
