
William Jessup University head men's soccer coach Micah Howser announced the signing of Uriel Moreno for the 2010 season.
Moreno joins the Warriors from nearby Lincoln High School, where he was a three-year varsity starter. He helped Lincoln win the Pioneer League Championship and Sac-Joaquin Section Championship as a sophomore. Moreno was also named team captain during his junior and senior year. Moreno was selected to the First Team All League as a sophomore, junior, and senior. He was also named the Fighting Zebras' most valuable player and most valuable player for the Pioneer Valley League in his senior year. At the club level, Moreno played for Placer United where he was named team captain for six years. He was named the team's most valuable player in 2005 and 2006 and helped his team to a 10th place national ranking in 2008. He also helped Placer United win the 2008 Santa Clara Invitational by slotting home the game winning penalty kick in the finals.
Howser said about Moreno, "Uriel will come in as one of the most technically advanced players on our squad. He distributes the ball almost flawlessly and has the speed and footwork to dribble and beat defenders one-on-one. He will add a much needed tactical approach to our attack. Uriel is not only a great asset on the field but a great young man who brings leadership and integrity."
William Jessup University coach Aaron Muhic announced the signing of Omari'Yea Boughton for the 2010-11 season.
Muhic said about Boughton, "Omari'Yea is a very talented basketball player. He attacks the basket very well and can play very physical. I am very excited to work with him and be a part of his development as a player and person." Boughton said, "I am honored to have the opportunity to play in a program that will allow me to prosper academically, athletically and spiritually. I feel like the mission and vision of William Jessup will provide me with a great foundation and prepare me."

William Jessup University's head women's basketball coach Guin Boggs has announced the hiring of Bryan Pistole and Brittany Kolenbrander as assistant basketball coaches.
Pistole, a native of Sierra Madre, California, was a three-year varsity standout player at Maranatha High School in Pasadena, California. He would go on to play one year at San Jose Christian College before graduating from Azusa Pacific. He spent three years as an assistant varsity coach at Maranatha and one year as the freshman coach at Cheyenne Mountain High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Pistole said, "I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to coach at the college level and be an understudy to Coach Boggs. I think we have the pieces in place to put together an exceptional program. I look forward to helping the student-athletes become all that God has planned for them." Pistole's wife, Jessica, is the head softball coach at William Jessup.
Kolenbrander, a native of Rockford, Michigan, comes to William Jessup after spending the last two seasons as an assistant coach at Vista Del Lago High School in Folsom, California. Kolenbrander is not a stranger to NAIA basketball as she starred at Trinity Christian College in Palso Heights, Illinois. In her junior year with the Trolls, Kolenbrander led her team to the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament championship and berth in the 2007 NAIA National Tournament. Upon graduation in May 2008, she participated with the women's basketball team on a sports mission trip through SCORE International to the Dominican Republic. Brittany has been a counselor at several high school and college summer camps. Kolenbrander said, "I have a deep passion for the game of basketball and thank God for the many opportunities I have been given. It's a privilege to join Coach Boggs' staff and have the opportunity to work with the student athletes at William Jessup."
The NAIA today released its annual list of NAIA Scholar Teams. 857 teams made the national list and twelve belong to the California Pacific Conference.
Represented on this year's list are four regular season champions and two runner-ups. The teams that made this year's list are Bethany University's volleyball team, the men's golf, women's soccer and women's basketball teams from Holy Names University, the men's and women's basketball and volleyball teams from Menlo College and the cross country, soccer, volleyball, swimming and outdoor track and field teams from Mills College. The swimming team from Mills had the highest collective GPA at 3.41.
To be considered for the national scholar teams list, the student athletes on these teams must have a combined average of 3.0 or higher based on a 4.0 scale.
California Pacific Conference commissioner Don Ott said about today's release, "The Cal Pac institutions are committed to excellence in education, and the NAIA's recognition of the academic successes of these teams is testament to our conference's mission. My hearty congratulations to all the individuals who made their teams so successful in the classroom."

The California Pacific Conference congratulates these twelve teams on their remarkable achievement

William Jessup University coach Aaron Muhic announced the signing of Keith Bruder to the 2010-11 men's basketball team.
Bruder, a 6-4 wing, joins the Warriors from College Park High School. The Pleasant Hill, California native averaged 14.7 points and 9.5 rebounds a game for the Falcons. As a senior, Bruder led College Park to a 22-4 record and their first Diablo Valley Athletic League championship in fifteen years. He earned First Team All-DVAL, All-East Bay, All-Metropolitan and East Bay Senior All-Star team honors. Keith was a three-year varsity player and was named team captain in his junior and senior season.
Head coach Aaron Muhic said about Bruder, "Keith is an extremely dedicated and hard working individual. With excellent leadership skills, he will make an impact both on and off the court." Bruder said, "After going through a long recruiting process with many travels, I decided that William Jessup is the best fit for me. It's not too far from home and it has great academics and athletics within a great small college community. I was very impressed by the coaching staff and their mindset."

Holy Names head men's basketball coach Dennis Jones announced the signing of Simba Gwanyanya to join the men's basketball team for the 2010-2011 season.
Gwanyanya, a 6-1 guard from Fremont California, played both high school and junior college basketball near his home. As a senior at Washington High School in Fremont, Gwanyanya averaged 16.4 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists per contest. He was honored as an Argus Newspaper Player of the Week, as well as being named to the Mission Valley All-Conference Team in 2007. Gwanyanya was selected to play on the County All Star Team after his senior season where he would pour in 61 points, which only four points from tying the all time record for the two game event.
Gwanyanya would not venture far to play his junior college basketball, choosing to heading to Ohlone College. While at Ohlone, he was a member of teams that spent time holding the state's #1 ranking. He helped guide the Renegades to a 24-5 overall record, a Coast Conference Championship and a berth in the State Tournament this past season.

Holy Names University women's basketball coach Steve Spencer announced the signing of Renique Fitzpatrick for the 2010-2011 season.
Fitzpatrick, a graduate of Armijo High School in Fairfield, California, averaged an impressive 13.3 points, 12.4 rebounds, 4.7 blocks and 3.7 steals a game, leading the Monticello Empire League in rebounds, blocks and steals and finished 4th in scoring. She was a First Team All-MEL selection and helped the Indians to a 19-8 record and a 4th place finish.
Hawks head coach Steve Spencer said about Fitzpatrick, "With Renique we are adding a key element that we needed. She has good size, great hands, tremendous athleticism and length. We are very excited she decided to become a Hawk.
Holy Names University women's basketball coach Steve Spencer announced the addition of guard Antonette Capili to the 2010-2011 roster.
Capili, transfers in from Los Medanos College where she was a 1,000 point scorer and two-time First Team All-Bay Valley Conference selection. This past season the 5-6 guard averaged 19 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals a game and hit 97 three pointers. In her career with the Mustangs, she scored 1,042 points and hit 166 three pointers in two seasons.
Hawks head coach Steve Spencer said about Capili, "Antonette fits our system perfectly, we are excited she chose Holy Names. Obviously she can score the basketball effectively and can really shoot it but she can also defend, handle, pass and scrap on the floor. She can do a lot of things and should contribute immediately."

Greg Hutton, golf coach at Holy Names University, has announced his resignation effective at the end of the month.
In his tenure at Holy Names, the Hawks captured three California Pacific Conference championships and at one point during the 2009-2010 season were ranked as high as third in the nation. They finished in the top at the NAIA National Championship, including a fifth place finish this past season, the last two years, and had two players earn All American honors.
Holy Names athletic director Dennis Jones said about Hutton, "Greg was a valuable member of the Holy Names community. He and his family will be missed greatly. He was a great colleague and friend. We wish Greg and his family the very best."
Hutton said, "I am proud of what we have accomplished at Holy Names. In the last four years this program has been transformed from a top 50 team into one of the most elite programs in the NAIA. With two young children, my wife and I decided that it was time to move closer to family. I will never forget the last four years at Holy Names. The success of the program was great, but the kids that I got to coach and the relationships that I created were what this was all about."

William Jessup University guard Austin Nelson was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Honors Court.

William Jessup University golf coach Matthew Stewart announced the signing of Joey Dendary to the 2010-11 men's golf team.
Dendary, a native of Winnemucca, Nevada, joins the Warriors after a successful career at Lowry High School . At Lowry High School, Joey spent four-year on the varsity team, was a captain for three of those four years and was named three times as the Buckaroos' most valuable player. He placed in the top five individual spots during state championship play all four years of high school. In his senior year, he was named the 2010 Nevada 3A Player of the Year, while leading his team to the Nevada Interscholatic Activities Association championship. At the state championship tournament, Joey finished tied for first place before ending up being the runner up after sudden death play. Along with winning the state team championship, the team also earned the Academic Award. Most recently, he shot a 65 at Somersett Country Club during the Nevada State Match Play Championships in Reno, Nevada earlier this month. In August, Joey will be playing at the Nevada State Amateur Championships at the Las Vegas Paiute Golf Resort.
Coach Stewart said about Dendary, "I am very excited to work with Joey. With Joey's success on and off the course, he will be a great fit in our program and campus community." Dendary said, "I decided to attend William Jessup because I like the smaller university setting and the opportunity to play in a great golf program. The coaching staff is great and I felt like it is a perfect fit for me."
Pacific Union College announced the hiring of Brittany Brown as the new women's volleyball coach at Pacific Union College.
Born and raised in the Napa Valley, Brown has returned to her hometown after five years of life in Southern California. She is looking forward to returning to the familiar surroundings of her home community and gym where she carries many fond memories. She is excited about the future of Pioneers' volleyball and has lots of experience to bring from her time down south.
As a player, Brown played collegiate volleyball at Azusa Pacific University, a NAIA school outside of Los Angeles, as a starting outside hitter/libero. While at Azusa Pacific her team competed twice in the NAIA Volleyball National Tournament. She was named the NAIA player of the week her freshman year for the Cougars in 2005, and also went on to set the current record for digs in a single season with 524. Prior to her time in Azusa, Brittany played club volleyball at Empire Mizuno Volleyball club for four years. She also played four years of volleyball at Pacific Union Prep, receiving multiple tournament and team most valuable player awards as well as being named Napa County Player of the Year in 2005.
Brown made her transition into coaching in 2006 when she began master teaching at NBC volleyball camps throughout the Northwest. Since then, she has coached at Bonita High School in La Verne, California, as well as a year at Point West Mizuno Volleyball Club and a year at Temecula Volleyball Club. During her coaching years, she has spent time teaching private lessons and collaborated with world-class coaches.
Pacific Union College athletic director Robert Castillo said, "It is exciting to invite Brittany Brown back home. She will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience, giving our program some much needed stability, not to mention her energy and focus, needed to return our program back where it belongs."
Holy Names University head men's basketball coach Dennis Jones announced the commitment of Kristian Manuel to join the Hawks for the 2010-2011 season.
Manuel, a 5-10 guard, will be joining the Hawks from Campbell High School in Ewa Beach, Hawaii. As a point guard, he is equally adept at leading a fast-paced transition game or knocking down 3-pointers in the half court set.
As a junior for the Sabers in 2008-2009, Manuel helped guide the squad to a 10-2 Oahu Interscholastic Association Red-West Division record and 18-10 overall. He averaged 11.5 points, 3 assists and 2 steals per game as Campbell High School earned a berth in the Hawaii High School Athletic Association. He was honored as an OIA Red-West Division Second Team All-Conference for his efforts on the floor. In 2009-2010, Manuel helped Campbell to a runner-up finish in the West. Kristian would finish his senior season with impressive numbers, averaging 22 points, 8 assists and 3 steals per contest for the Sabers. In the state playoffs, Manuel poured in 25 points against eventual state champion Moanalua, scoring 23 against state second place finisher Kahuku and scored 22 against Farrington High School. Manuel received First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-State. Manuel's honors continued in April, as the Oahu Interscholastic Red-Wed coaches awarded Manuel with the league's highest honor, naming him OIA Red-West Player of the Year.
Head coach Dennis Jones said about Manuel, "We are very excited that Kristian has chosen Holy Names. He brings a great work ethic with him to the mainland, possesses a good understanding of the game, can play at a variety of speeds and has the ability to really stretch the defense."
Holy Names University women's basketball coach Steve Spencer announced the addition of Oakland, California native Annie Mahaney for the 2010-2011 season.
Mahaney, a graduate of Bishop O'Dowd High School in Oakland, transfers to the Hawks from Monterey Peninsula College. The 5-11 sophomore forward spent a redshirt year at CSU Monterey Bay immediately following high school before transferring to Monterey Peninsula where she was an honorable mention selection in the All-Coast Conference for Coach Wendy Bates. Mahaney averaged nine points and five rebounds a game and helped her team to a 17-11 record and a 3rd place finish in the Coast Conference's South Division last season.
Spencer said about Mahaney, "We are excited to add Annie to the mix. We think she will be a key contributor, she is very skilled. Not only does she fill a need of ours but she comes from such great programs, she's been so well coached. We feel blessed, we feel like she's coming home."

Holy Names University head softball coach Melanie Gregor announced the signing of Mekenna Thurber, an infielder for the McQueen High School softball team.
A 2010 graduate of Reno, Nevada's McQueen High School, Thurber was a 4-year varsity starter, for the Lancers, that batted .398 this past season and led her team in runs scored with 34, while sporting a .468 on-base percentage.
Thurber was named Second Team All-League for the 4A North-High Desert league, and was an All-State nominee. Thurber was also active in many community service projects like the Truckee River clean-up project, the Northern Nevada Food Bank and St. Vincent's Dining Room.

William Jessup University men's basketball coach Aaron Muhic announced the signing of Nikita Evdokimov, Alden Wampler and Joe Jacobus for the 2010-11 men's basketball team.
Evdokimov, a native of Novy Urengoy, Russia, joins the Warriors after a successful stint at Contra Costa Community College in San Pablo, California. The 6-9 center finished his sophomore season by averaging 5.1 points and 3.2 rebounds as he helped the Comets to a 13-14 record overall and 8-8 record in the Bay Valley Conference. Nikita received the student athlete academic award in both seasons at Contra Costa.
Coach Muhic said about Evdokimov, "I am very excited to work with Nikita. He has made himself into a good college player with a high coachability and hard work. I know that he will have a very positive impact on our campus community on and off the court."
Evdokimov said, "William Jessup provides me the opportunity to grow stronger spiritually, academically and athletically. The coaching staff is great and the basketball program has had great success. The small class size will help me to build great relationships with my professors and excel in the classroom."
Alden Wampler, a 6-4 guard, joins the Warriors from Modesto Christian High School. The Modesto, California native averaged 8 points and 5 rebounds a game for the Crusaders. In his two seasons playing varsity basketball, Alden helped Modesto Christian to a 46-18 record with back-to-back Trans Valley League and Sac-Joaquin Section Championships. As a senior captain, Wampler earned Trans Valley League All-League honors and was selected to the Columbia College All-Star and to six Stanislaus County All-Star games.
Coach Muhic said about Wampler, "Alden comes from a very good high school program and is a winner. He will need to continue to work on his strength, but I know he will adjust well to the college game." Wampler said, "William Jessup felt like home for me. I like the close knit community atmosphere and I am excited to grow as a person and player over the next four years at Jessup."

William Jessup University head men's basketball coach Aaron Muhic announced the signing of Philip Peterson to the 2010-11 team.
Peterson, a 6-6 wing, joins the Warriors from Casa Roble High School. The Orangevale, California native averaged 8.8 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.5 assists a game for the Rams. He was selected team captain and was named to the John Hauslet Invitational All-Tournament team. In his best contest, Peterson scored 23 points, had 7 rebounds and 3 assists.
In the classroom, he was a four-year Scholastic Recognition Award recipient (3.79-3.99), a 2010 Golden Seal Merit Award winner, and ranked 18 out of 347 in his class with a 3.94 GPA. In the community, Philip served at Volunteers of America Homeless Shelter, conducted youth basketball camps, and mentors middle school students for the Youth for Christ Organization.
Coach Muhic said about Peterson, "Philip is a great fit for our program and community. He has a strong work ethic both on and off the court. With his dedication and commitment, Philip has a bright future in our program." Peterson said, "I choose William Jessup because of the Christian environment and how everyone at the university is there helping you to accomplish your goals. I like the small school atmosphere compared to some of the larger schools I visited. I feel like William Jessup is a great place for me to grow spiritually, academically, and athletically."
Holy Names University men's basketball coach Dennis Jones announced the commitment of Fabian Lopez to play for the Hawks in 2010-2011. Lopez joins the Hawks as a junior college transfer, playing for one season at both Columbia College and Modesto Junior College. In high school, Lopez played at Oakdale High School.

William Jessup University coach Jessica Pistole announced the signing of Angelina Cruz and Erin Sigala to the 2010-11 softball team.
Cruz, a Sonora, California native, comes to William Jessup after helping the College of the Siskiyous to a 28-11 overall record and a Golden Valley Conference Championship. A first baseman/designated hitter, batted .333 and earned second team All-Conference honors. In her freshman year, she helped the Eagles to a 43-3 record. She attended Sonora Union High School, where she earned first team All-Valley Oak League honors. Cruz said, "I am choosing William Jessup because I really enjoyed my visit to the campus and I love the environment, chapel services, staff, players and coaches."
Sigala, a Salinas, California native, will come to William Jessup after spending time at NCAA Division I CSU Northridge and NCAA Division II member CSU Monterey Bay. In high school, Erin was a dominating pitcher at Notre Dame High School. In her senior year, she led the Tigers to a 22-2 record, while pitching ten no-hitters and five perfect games with an ERA of 0.20. For her stellar year, she earned Most Valuable Player honors for the Monterey Bay League, Monterey County Co-Player of the Year, Central Coast Section softball player of the year, Small Schools State Player of the Year, All-State first team, All-Western Regional first team and Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Softball Coaches third team All-American honors. Sigala was also selected to try out for the USA softball junior national team. Sigala said, "I am excited to join the William Jessup softball family. William Jessup offers many great opportunities both on and off the field.".jpg)
William Jessup University women's soccer head coach Jamie Howard announced the signing of Arrianna Fragoso, Kasey Kellogg, Claire Reiss and Emily Fernandez to the 2010 women's soccer team.
Fragoso, a Sacramento, California native, joins the Warriors after a three-year stint at Cosumnes River College. In her first year for the Hawks, Fragoso was named offensive most valuable player while leading the team in goals (14) and assists (12). She earned First Team Big 8 Conference and Consumnes River College Most Valuable Woman Athlete honors. She returned this past season from ACL surgery to help lead the Hawks to a national ranking as she netted seven goals and recorded five assists. Before joining Consumnes River, Arrianna had a standout career as a three-year varsity star at Sheldon High School. Fragoso said, "I chose William Jessup because I love the small class sizes and how all the staff and faculty are truly there to help the students accomplish their goals. The environment at William Jessup is much different than other schools I have visited. I like the feeling of the community and believe I will be in the best environment to succeed academically and athletically."
Kellogg, a Quartz Hill, California native, joins the Warriors after an outstanding career at Quartz Hill High School. Kellogg earned First Team All-Golden League honors and was named team captain. She helped guide the Rebels to the Golden League championship with a 13-1 league record and 15-5-2 overall. In addition, Casey played six years for the Palmdale Thunder soccer club. Kellogg said, "I knew I wanted to attend a small Christian school with a close-knit, family-like atmosphere. When I visited William Jessup, I knew it was the place for me both as a student and an athlete. The coaches, the players, and the entire program are very successful and I am excited to be able to contribute to the team."
Reiss, a Simi Valley, California native, comes to William Jessup after a great career at Simi Valley High School. As a goalkeeper, she was named defensive most valuable player in both her junior and senior year. She also earned the Captain's Award and Academic Achievement Award for 2010. Reiss said, "William Jessup offers a great Christian based education that will help me grow."
Fernandez, a Clovis, California native, comes to William Jessup from Buchanan High School. As a three-year varsity player, Emily helped guide Buchanan to three Tri-Rivers League Championships with a combined record of 76-7-2. As a junior and senior, she earned Fresno Bee All-Star Second Team and Tri-Rivers Second Team honors. Emily was also awarded the coaches award her senior year demonstrating extraordinary leadership and team building qualities. Fernandez said, "I am excited to join the Warrior family."
