California Maritime Academy will forfeit nine women's basketball victories, including six Cal Pac Conference contests, for the inadvertent use of ineligible players in the first part of the 2009-10 season. The NAIA confirmed, however, that the Keelhaulers remain eligible for postseason play this year, beginning with next week's Cal Pac Tournament.
In conference play, CMA jumped out to a 6-0 start with a victory against each Cal Pac basketball playing member. All six of those games are now forfeited. Once the athletics administration became aware of the miscalculation of credit hours, the affected student-athletes were removed from participation. Since then, CMA has gone 3-3 overall and 3-2 in league play. Their adjusted record, entering their final regular season contest on Saturday, is now 4-23 overall, 3-8 in Cal Pac play.

Non-conference victories over Evergreen State, Fresno Pacific, and Cal Tech were also forfeited.

"It is indeed unfortunate to have this take place, and I am grateful for the hard work of our conference eligibility chairman, Jim Davies, for guiding Cal Maritime through this process," said commissioner Don Ott. "We are grateful for the NAIA's final determination on CMA's post-season eligibility and that all our student-athletes will be able to compete for a chance at the national title. It is important to also give note that the institution has gone to great lengths to assist in this matter and has been a model of character in taking responsibility for the error and for making adjustments to avoid such issues in the future."
