The annual season-opening gathering of the California Pacific Conference coaches and administrators is on Sunday August 22nd, at Menlo College in Atherton, Calif. The training and awards event is the traditional start of the academic and competitive year for the league.
NOTE: Opening and closing sessions will take place at Broward Hall's "Pit" room.
This year's convention focuses on the NAIA's new eligibility initiative with featured training on the use of the association's eligibility center. This "clearinghouse" will help standardize both initial and continuing eligibility throughout the NAIA, and its introduction is a key element to the continued growth of the Cal Pac and the NAIA.
Lori Thomas of the NAIA and Jim Davies, the Cal Pac's own eligibility chair and a NAIA Hall of Fame inductee, will guide the eligibility discussions.
In addition to that training, each coaching group will meet separately to discuss important issues peculiar to their own sports, making recommendations to the Executive Council for the on-going improvement of the conference.
Commissioner Don Ott will welcome the group and later close the session with a "State of the Conference" presentation. Highlighted in that final session this year will be the presentation of some new conference-wide awards and the unveiling of an exciting national recognition recently earned by the Cal Pac.
"Seeing all the coaches and Athletics Directors together is always very motivating to me," Ott said. "The energy this group has is infectious, and the ideas generated from this meeting always propel us forward and upward."
