The journey to Missouri and the 2009 NAIA Division II National Tournament was announced today for the California Pacific Conference and it includes all nine of the conference schools traveling up and down the western coast, to Hawaii and east to the Rocky Mountains. The season gets started on October 30th with Holy Names University playing host to Fresno Pacific University at 7 pm and Simpson University heading to Portland to play Cascade College at 7:30 pm. The defending conference champions Menlo College Oaks gets started on November 21st against Rohnert Park versus San Francisco State University in the first game of the Ron Logsdon Basketball Classic hosted by Sonoma State.
The following are highlights from each of the conference school's schedules for the coming year:
- Bethany University's men's team, much like its lady counterparts, will not be spending much time at home in the early part of the 2008-2009 campaign. In fact, the only game that the Bruins will have in Scotts Valley for the rest of the 2008 calendar year is a game against American Sports University out of San Bernardino. The Bruins have three tournaments to start the season with - the Lancers Classic in Riverside, the WWC Hoops Classic in Walla Walla, Washington and the Midland Empire/Ohio Casualty Classic in Klamath Falls, Oregon. The Bruins open up their conference schedule December 11th versus Dominican University in San Rafael and will conclude their season February 21st in Vallejo versus CSU Maritime
- CSU Maritime will start their season in Fresno versus Fresno Pacific University and will have their home opener November 8th versus Northwest Christian University. The Keelhaulers will also host the 3rd Annual Maritime Cup, which features Maine Maritime Academy, SUNY Maritime and the Coast Guard Academy. The Keelhaulers are also involved in the County Bank Classic, which is hosted by CSU Stanislaus and the HNU New Year's Classic, which is hosted by Holy Names University. The Keelhaulers will start their conference season December 13th versus Dominican University in Vallejo and will end the conference season in Vallejo versus Bethany University on February 21st.
- CSU East Bay starts its schedule Friday November 21st in Portland versus Lewis and Clark College in the second game of the Lewis and Clark Classic. The Pioneers will also make a visit to southern California to take part in the Lee Fulmer Memorial Basketball Tournament and will also play the University of San Francisco on December 30th. The first home game is also the start of the conference season for the Pioneers as they will host Holy Names University. The Pioneers finish their schedule February 19th in Hayward versus CSU Maritime.
- Dominican University starts their season October 31st versus Hope International University in the first game of the Lancers Classic hosted by California Baptist University. The home opener for the Penguins is November 7th versus Southern Oregon University. The Penguins will play in two tournaments - the County Bank Classic hosted by CSU Stanislaus and the Hampton Inn Classic hosted by Rocky Mountain College. Dominican starts their conference season December 11th versus Bethany University in San Rafael and end their conference season at Menlo College in Atherton on February 19th.
- Holy Names University has a travel-heavy schedule for this season. The Hawks will travel to Oregon for two games (Warner Pacific College and Cascade College), southern California (Vanguard University and California Baptist University) and Hawaii (University of Hawaii-Hilo and Hawaii Pacific University). The Hawks will also host a tournament - the HNU New Year's Classic. The conference schedule for the Hawks starts December 11th at CSU East Bay in Hayward and concludes February 21st at William Jessup University in Rocklin.
- Defending champion Menlo College starts off their season at the Ron Logsdon Basketball Classic hosted by Sonoma State University. The Oaks will take part in the Hoop n' Surf Classic in Honolulu and will play University of Rio Grande (Ohio) and BYU Hawaii. The Oaks start their conference season December 11th versus William Jessup University in a rematch of last year's conference championship game. The second matchup between the two schools comes on January 24th in Rocklin. The conference schedule will conclude February 21st versus Simpson University in Redding.
- Pacific Union College starts their season with back-to-back games November 8th-9th versus Southern Oregon University and the defending NAIA Division II Men's Basketball champions Oregon Institute of Technology respectively. The Pioneers will go on a five-game road swing, which will take the Pioneers to Portland to play Portland Bible and Cascade College and then to southern California to play San Diego Christian College, Hope International University and Whittier College. The conference season for the Pioneers starts at home December 13th versus Bethany University and ends also at home versus Holy Names University February 19th.
- Simpson University starts in Oregon October 30th versus Cascade College. The RedHawks will then play a tough three-game stretch at home as they take on Northwest Christian University, The Master's College and Oregon Institute of Technology. The RedHawks are also taking part in the Raider Classic hosted by Southern Oregon University. The RedHawks start their conference schedule December 13th versus CSU East Bay in Redding and ends their conference schedule February 21st versus Menlo College in Redding
- William Jessup University will be a witness to history as on November 1st, they will play Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls in the first game for the Hustlin' Owls since winning the NAIA Division II National Championship in March. The Warriors schedule also includes hosting the Warrior Classic on November 14th-15th and playing CSU Stanislaus and Humboldt State University on the road. The Warriors conference season starts December 11th versus Menlo College in Atherton in a rematch of last year's conference championship game. The second matchup between the two schools comes on January 24th in Rocklin. Their conference schedule ends February 21st in Rocklin versus Holy Names University.
