Holy Names University head men's basketball coach Dennis Jones announced the commitment of Kristian Manuel to join the Hawks for the 2010-2011 season.
Manuel, a 5-10 guard, will be joining the Hawks from Campbell High School in Ewa Beach, Hawaii. As a point guard, he is equally adept at leading a fast-paced transition game or knocking down 3-pointers in the half court set.
As a junior for the Sabers in 2008-2009, Manuel helped guide the squad to a 10-2 Oahu Interscholastic Association Red-West Division record and 18-10 overall. He averaged 11.5 points, 3 assists and 2 steals per game as Campbell High School earned a berth in the Hawaii High School Athletic Association. He was honored as an OIA Red-West Division Second Team All-Conference for his efforts on the floor. In 2009-2010, Manuel helped Campbell to a runner-up finish in the West. Kristian would finish his senior season with impressive numbers, averaging 22 points, 8 assists and 3 steals per contest for the Sabers. In the state playoffs, Manuel poured in 25 points against eventual state champion Moanalua, scoring 23 against state second place finisher Kahuku and scored 22 against Farrington High School. Manuel received First Team All-Conference and Second Team All-State. Manuel's honors continued in April, as the Oahu Interscholastic Red-Wed coaches awarded Manuel with the league's highest honor, naming him OIA Red-West Player of the Year.
Head coach Dennis Jones said about Manuel, "We are very excited that Kristian has chosen Holy Names. He brings a great work ethic with him to the mainland, possesses a good understanding of the game, can play at a variety of speeds and has the ability to really stretch the defense."
