Holy Names finished fifth at the NAIA Men's Golf National Championship that wrapped up today. The top golf team in the entire nation, #1 Oklahoma City University won the team championship, shooting a combined stroke total of 1,184. Holy Names finished nine shots back with a combined 1,195 strokes in total.
California Pacific Conference Golfer of the Year Garrett True finished the fourth and final day with a 71 and finished the tournament tied in sixth place with a 299 (72-72-75-71). True's solid play all week landed him on the all tournament team, which rewards the top fifteen individual golfers. Stephen Edman shot a 73 in the final round to finish tied for 31st place with a 301 (75-78-74-73). Robbie Bendorf (74-77-77-75) and Austin Fink (74-77-79-73) finished tied for 38th place with a four-day total of 303. Daren Johnson shot a 76 in the final round to finish tied for 93rd place, finishing the tournament with a 322 (87-76-83-77).
Holy Names coach Greg Hutton said, "We were right there all the way to the end, but we just ran out of holes. I'm so proud of these guys, this has been a special year for these guys."
