Holy Names University softball coach, Melanie Gregor, released her recruiting class for the 2010 season. The defending California Pacific Conference champions recruited three junior transfers and eight freshman.

The first of Gregor's junior tranfers, Markie' Benavidez-Talbott comes to Holy Names from Cosumnes River College. From El Dorado Hills, California, Benavidez-Talbott ranked among the top among all California junior college pitchers in strikeouts, saves, wins, appearances and innings pitched.  Additionally, Benavidez-Talbott was the most valuable player in the 2008-09 season at Consumes River, Big 8 All-Conference first team pitcher, All-Nor Cal and received the Steve Krisiak athletic scholarship award.

The second of Gregor's junior transfers is San Diego resident Hannah Chartier, who attended San Diego Mesa College.  Coach Gregor said about Chartier, "She is a threat from both sides of the plate, usually in the top of the line-up with Mesa."  Chartier was team captain and starting centerfielder for the Olympians. 

The third of Gregor's junior transfers is a familiar face. Melanie Verrico, a member of the California Pacific College Honorable Mention team for 2009 from Bethany University joins Holy Names. Verrico is from Brentwood, California.

The first of Gregor's freshman recruits, Amanda Carnero travels north from Menifee and Vista Murrieta HS to join the Hawks.  As a first baseman and outfielder, Carnero helped Vista Murrieta to the CIF finals in the Division II playoffs. She also brings a strong work ethic into the classroom as well as she averaged a 3.0 GPA. 

The second of Gregor's freshman recruits is Laurel Clough, a native of Folsom, California. Clough was named All-Delta River second team while at Folsom High School while managing a 3.05 GPA.

The third of Gregor's freshman recruits, Jordynn Elwood, arrives to Holy Names from Lodi High School as a Team Captain, a three-time honor roll designate, a four year varsity starter, and a two-time San Joaquin Athletic Association First Team All-League. Elwood helped guide Lodi High to a 4th place finish in the 2009 SJAA Section playoffs.

The fourth of Gregor's freshman recruits, Southern California native Christine Gomez leaves Laguna Hills, California and Laguna Hills High School after earning a 3.7 GPA, and being a four-time Honor Roll recognition. On the field, Gomez received First Team All-Pacific Coast League, First Team All-CIF Southern Section, and Most Valuable Defensive Player for Laguna Hills High School.

The fifth freshman recruit for Gregor, Alexis Moctezuma, comes to Holy Names from Montebello, CA and Hesperia High School.  Moctezuma brings experience from a CIF Division VAA championship team, as well as being named First Team All-League.

The sixth of Gregor's freshman recruits, Susan Robertson, of Oakley, California's Freedom High School, arrives with a North Coast Section championship, as well as a NCS second place finish along with her team's Coaches Award.  She also adds a 3.3 GPA to the Holy Names community.

The seventh freshman recruit, Bear Creek High School graduate Allison Snider, of Stockton, California brings to the Hawks her four-time Honor Roll honors, and a National Honor Roll recognition. On the field, Snider brings an acknowledgment as an All-County All-Star Team member and is a recipient of the All-Conference Utility award while being a four-year varsity starter.

Taryn Thomas, most recently from James Logan HS in Union City, California, rounds out Gregor's freshman recruiting class. Thomas adds her skills as a three-year, two-sport letter winner in softball and volleyball, earning Athlete of the Week, East Bay Prep Athlete of the week, and being team captain with All-League First Team honors.
