This Week: The Hawks drew Concordia University (OR) in the first round of the NAIA National Tournament. The first round begins on Saturday and the Holy Names-Concordia match-up is on Saturday at 4 pm.

Scouting the Cavaliers: Concordia was the Cascade Collegiate Conference regular season co-winner with the College of Idaho and won the postseason tournament. They finished with a 18-2 overall record and an 8-1 conference record. Jessica Ramback led the Cavaliers in goals (18), shots (75) and shots on goal (48). The Cavaliers' goalie Georgie Christensen had 49 saves on the season for an average of 2.45 per contest.

Scouting the Hawks: Holy Names finished the regular season with an 11-8 overall record and a 9-1 conference record. Monique Reyes is the team leader in goals (8), shots (46) and shots on goal (29). Sabel Maguire led the Hawks with 74 saves on the season for an average of 9 per game. 

Last Time Out: The two teams played each other in Redding on August 28th. The Cavaliers won 2-1 over the Hawks. The two teams were tied 1-1 at the halftime intermission but Concordia scored a goal in second half for the game-winner. Maria Gonzalez had a goal for the Hawks.

National Appearances: This is Holy Names' first trip to the National Tournament. This will be Concordia's eighth consecutive trip to the National Tournament. The Cavaliers have a 12-8-2 record in those appearances.

Getting To Know Concordia University:
Concordia University was founded as the
Concordia Academy in 1905. In 1977, Concordia College split from its high school roots and became a four year institution. In 1995, Concordia College became Concordia University.

 

About The Coaches:
Nick Lusson is in his second year as the head coach for the Hawks. He attended UC Santa Cruz and played for the men's soccer team for three seasons. Coach Lusson has been coaching for over 15 years and has worked with a large number of youth soccer clubs and high school programs. He's previously worked as a staff coach at both Pleasanton Rage and Mustang SC, both nationally-ranked youth clubs from the Bay Area. He was the head girl's coach at Northgate High School in Walnut Creek, CA where he led the team to North Coast Section playoffs in both his seasons there and built a top-ranked program in Northern California.

 

Ranked sixth all-time in wins in the NAIA, Grant Landy is his 13th season as head coach of the Concordia women's soccer team. His squads have combined for a 231-47-15 record during his tenure and have won 10 conference championships (nine straight), claimed three NAIA Region I titles, and made eight consecutive trips to the NAIA National Tournament.ournaments and soccer camps. Coach Lusson holds a USSF "A" License, NSCAA National Diploma, NSCAA Director of Coaching
