Pacific Union College announced two signings for the 2009 season. Joining the Pioneers are Jessica Simmons from Fairfield, California and Amanda Richards from Fremont, California. Simmons and Richards are the last cogs in the 2009 recruiting class for head coach Eli Cuenca. Cuenca had signed five other recruits earlier in the summer.
Jessica Simmons is a 5-9 setter and outside hitter. She played for Vanden High School and club volleyball for Club Solano as a setter, outside hitter and defensive specialist for coach Wayne Bucaojit. During her time at Vanden, Simmons was voted Most Improved Player. Simmons also carried her success over to the classroom as she had a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
Amanda Richards is a 5-6 libero and defensive specialist. She played for Washington High School in Fremont and played club volleyball for Altamont VBC. Richards was voted Most Valuable Player and captain for the Huskies. She was also voted onto the first team for the Mission Valley Athletic League and led the Huskies to two MVAL championships and to the second round of the CIF North Coast Section playoffs in two years.
