The Pacific Union College women's basketball program has added some depth to their young team. Gabby Alvero, Jalissa Engelage, Courtney Blohm and Lara Canders are four new recruits that should make an immediate impact in the program.
Gabby Alvero is a 5-4 guard from British Columbia, Canada. During her senior year at Riverside Secondary School, she averaged over nine points and almost six assists per game. Gabby is also a great student. She has been on the honor roll since the sixth grade and looks forward to pursing her dream of going to medical school and becoming a pediatrician. Gabby is the ultimate team player.
Jalissa Engelage is a 5'7 guard from Diamond Springs, California. Jalissa is no stranger to PUC. She was recruited last year to play for the women's program, but decided to focus on her academics and she sat out her freshman year. After gaining a sense of comfort and familiarity, Jalissa has made a strong push to put herself right back into the mix for this upcoming season. She played her high school basketball at El Dorado Adventist Academy, where she averaged ten points per game. Her athleticism and quickness will be a great addition to the young Pioneers.
Courtney Blohm is a 5-6 guard from El Dorado Hills, California. Courtney spent her freshman year at Sierra College playing softball. After deciding to transfer, Courtney has come back to basketball, a sport she has always had a passion for. Courtney played basketball in high school at Union Mine High School. She is a fiery competitor that should add a nice mix of enthusiasm and skill to the women's basketball program.
Lara Canders is a 5-6 guard from Concord, California. Lara is another transfer student who played her first year of basketball at Moravian College in Pennsylvania. After one year on the east coast, she decided to return to California and play closer to her home and family. During her senior year at Ygnacio Valley High School, she averaged over fifteen points and three assists per game. She was named most valuable player, team captain and first team all-league. She also led the league in three-point shooting and was the second leading scorer overall. Lara will be a formidable offensive weapon for the Pioneers this season.
Coach George Barcenas is excited by the additions to the team and is looking forward to seeing their contributions to next year's squad. "We expect these players to help us immediately and make an impact as we try to reach our goals. We look forward to another exciting year of Pioneer basketball at Pacific Union."| Walla Walla University at | 39 |
