This Week: The Hawks drew Point Loma Nazarene University as the first game in Pool D play. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:30 am (PDT) on Thursday.


Scouting the Sea Lions: The Sea Lions finished 2nd in the Golden State Athletic Conference behind #1 California Baptist University. The Sea Lions finished the year #4 in the national rankings. This is Point Loma Nazarene's 8th trip to the National Tournament.


Scouting the Hawks: Holy Names won the California Pacific Conference regular season championships this season automatically sending the Hawks to Decatur. This is the first time that the Hawks have been to the National Tournament. 


Last Time Out: The lone meeting between the two schools was March 17th in Orange at the 11th Annual Sun West Tournament. The Sea Lions beat the Hawks 10-1.

National Appearances: This is Holy Names' first trip to the National Tournament. Point Loma Nazarene has had 8 trips recording a record of 34-17.

Getting To Know Point Loma Nazarene University: The college was founded by several female laypersons in the Church of the Nazarene with the assistance of Phineas F. Bresee, who was the co-founder of the Nazarene Church in Los Angeles. The Pacific Bible College opened in 1902. In 1910, the college moved to Pasadena and was renamed Nazarene University. In 1973, the college was relocated to the Point Loma peninsula in San Diego. In 1983, the name was changed to Point Loma Nazarene College, and, in 1998, it was changed to Point Loma Nazarene University.

About The Coaches:

Coach Melanie Gregor is in her 2nd season as head coach of the Hawks. She has a 44-41 record as head coach of the Hawks. She was head coach and physical education teach at Contra Costa College from 2003-2007 and the head women's varsity volleyball coach at the Athenian School in Danville from 2003-2007.

 

Coach Dave Williams is in his 12th season with the Sea Lions program. During his 12 years as head coach at PLNU, Williams has compiled an impressive 520-168 overall record. His teams have won three conference championships (2003-04) and three Region II titles (2001, 2003-04). In 1998 and 2003, Williams was named GSAC Coach of the Year.
