Marion, Indiana – William Jessup University junior Anthony Villarreal's dream became reality on Saturday morning at the 2013 NAIA Outdoor National Championship as he finished twenty-sixth in the Marathon with a time of 2:40:49.60.
After arriving on Tuesday, Villarreal geared up for the race with an 8.5 mile run on Wednesday and 6 miles on Thursday. With the race starting at 6:00 am eastern standard time, Tony also had to get used to the time change. He started out the race strong with a time of 12:06 after the first two miles. At the 20th miles, he was on pace for a top 30 finish with a time of 1:57:10. Tony would finish strong as he came in just over is goal time of 2:36.00.
Villarreal capped of a great year in both cross country and track. He was a part of the 2012 Men's Cross Country California Pacific Conference Champion team. He will closeout his running career next fall for the cross country team before graduating in December.
