Simpson University, one of the California Pacific Conference's co-champions, will start working towards the NCCAA Softball National Tournament championship on Thursday.
The first opponent for the Red Hawks is Union University of Tennessee. A NCAA Division II member, Union finished their regular season 24-20. The Bulldogs earned their spot in the NCCAA Softball National Tournament after winning the NCCAA Mideast Region Softball Tournament last week. The winner of the Red Hawks/Bulldogs will play at 11 am on Friday while the loser will play on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 pm.
A possible opponent for the Red Hawks in the second round is Central Baptist College. Simpson and Central Baptist played each other in an elimination game in 2010 when the Red Hawks last played in the NCCAA Softball National Championship. Shorter College is the #1 seed in the NCCAA Softball National Championship. The Hawks are the defending NAIA national champion in softball.
