The California Pacific Conference men's soccer tournament opens Friday, Nov. 9, at California Maritime Academy in Vallejo, Calif., and will feature #1 Embry-Riddle against #4 Simpson in the first semi-final, with #2 Menlo facing #3 Marymount in the second match.
The top two seeds were given to the respective division winners, with the 1-2 placing determined by the NAIA's mRPI formula. Embry-Riddle, ranked #19 in the NAIA (12.2-3 overall, 2-0-2 Cal Pac South), is in its first season in the Cal Pac and earned the top seed with a mRPI of .575. #2 Menlo (.445 mRPI) ran the table in the North division (12-3-3, 8-0 Cal Pac North), and is the defending conference men's champions.
The #3/#4 spots were established purely by the mRPI this season. Marymount (.425 mRPI) posted a 9-5-4 overall mark (2-1-1 Cal Pac South) in its first Cal Pac season to gain the #3 seed. Simpson (.285) , which went 5-2-1 in the North (6-9-2 overall) got the #4 spot.
The semifinals at Cal Maritime will start at 5:30 pm. The championship match on Saturday, Nov. 10, will begin at 7:00 p.m. The winner of the tournament receives the conference's automatic qualification to the NAIA national championships.
