For Coach Spencer winning has always been second nature. As an assistant for 5 years to now Head Men's Basketball Coach Dennis Jones, Coach Spencer help compile 161 wins with only 41 losses. When Dennis Jones decided to coach on the men's side, Coach Spencer proudly took over the program he helped become the power house for all those years.

Now it was Coach Spencer time to implement his teachings and continue the great traditions of our women's basketball program. After his first year Coach Spenser finished second in conference, but received an at large bid for nationals where they lost in the "sweet sixteen." The next two years would be re-building years for Coach Spencer, but nonetheless finished second each year in conference. After not participating in nationals for in Coach Spencer's second and third year, Coach Spencer's fourth year of coaching would be a memorable one. The Hawks finished 1st in Conference with an impressive 14-2 record, and also won their conference tournament to go to nationals for the ninth time in the programs history.

On Dec 18, 2008 with an 81 -73 win against Chapman University, Coach Spencer collected his 100th win. When asked, what was his most memorable moment in these 100 wins Coach Spencer replied, "Some of the wins I remember include my first one ever.  Also, we erased a 13 point deficit in the second half and beat Linfield College in my coaching head coaching debut.  Secondly, beating South Dakota Tech to advance to the sweet sixteen was a good one.  Clinching my first conference title against Menlo on senior night last year and beating East Bay to win the Cal Pac tournament were pretty high up there as well." Also, when asked what his biggest surprise in coaching and Coach Spencer replied, "Can't really forget losing to Dominican 43-42 on a free throw with no time on the clock and both teams standing by their bench watching.  If we had won we would have shared the Cal Pac championship instead the free throw gave DU the title and snapped Holy Names' streak of 7 in a row."

This year the Hawks are off to an 8-6 start with some wins over Carroll College, Oregon Institute of Technology, and Chapman University to name a few. The Hawks look to pick up where the left off when they face South Dakota School of Mines on December 29th on the Campus of Menlo College. Tip off time is 5pm.
